petroleum errands in the morning dew
I have contracted suburban flu
through airport security
down hospital hallways snakes
the scent of something rotten beneath my nose
it comes first returning
bellowing the song and dance
of modern life
I've got this man to parade around on a leash just like a dog
cattle lowing in the moonlight
waiting for the alarm
the secret word is out
let's beat the armchair drums of war again
and lately I've been feeling like someone woke me up and now I'm old
no locked doors
spilled CV across the kitchen floor
spinning top morality
stretching to infinity
world without oil
shape without gesture
slimy talking suit with a thing for sex swings manning the whip
dredging for a place among
the grocery walkers of the middle class
and we will not rise above and shake them from the rafters
the world's not worth a fuss
after all it's not made for us
and I would even settle for a speck of dust
